The Situation

Starbucks valued self-performance, but also wanted to improve service and reduce overall costs - with a partner who shared their culture & diversity values

They had more than 150 technicians, as well as brickmortar depots to warehouse inventory in cities where technicians were located. They also had people locally managing these depots

They initiated an RFP process. Vixxo stood out amongst the competition due to a willingness to bring these technicians onto our team and work with their preferred vendors

The Challenge

Starbucks wanted to ensure the solution would maintain a team feel within their sites by keeping, where possible, technicians aligned to their existing routes and territories.

The model Vixxo would need to design would accommodate onboarding Starbucks' coffee technicians to ensure continuity of service and to leverage their expert level knowledge of Starbucks’ proprietary assets.

The Solution

Vixxo interviewed all the technicians with the goal to retain as many as wanted to make the transition to work under Vixxo.

The centralized depots were planned to be decommissioned and transitioned to an “inventory on wheels” program. To ensure technicians had ready access to the parts needed to service Starbucks’ equipment, Vixxo analyzed historical demand and developed a predictive replenishment program to keep the necessary inventory on hand at all times.

The majority of the techs were retained and onboarded to Vixxo - and were able to maintain their existing routes.
The initial savings immediately following the transition were significant, as duplicate coverage in overstaffed areas was removed. To improve productivity and response time, Vixxo optimized routes, and, in some regions, hired new techs.
Vixxo provides growth opportunities and ongoing training for our techs and is welcoming to current and former Starbucks employees who apply.
